“Party with Your PTO Parent’s Night Out” at SES on March 31 “Party with Your PTO Parent’s Night Out” at SES on March 31: The Solvay Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) is hosting the first “Party with Your PTO Parent’s Night Out” event on Friday, March 31. All parents and community members are invited to join the Elementary PTO for this shopping event. The “Party with Your PTO Parent’s Night Out” event will take place in the Solvay Elementary School gymnasium from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Admission to the event is $5.00 per person and includes light refreshments. The event will feature over 15 small and local businesses, all in one location for lots of shopping, raffles, and fun.   Many of the businesses at the event are owned and run by Solvay Elementary School staff. Reminder: Lion King Jr. Tickets On Sale Now! Reminder: Lion King Jr. Tickets On Sale Now!: Reminder! There is still time to purchase tickets for “The Lion King Jr.” at Solvay Middle School. The musical will roar to life on Friday, March 24 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The matinee performance on Saturday, March 25 at 2 p.m. will be signed in American Sign Language. Tickets for “The Lion King Jr.” are $5 each and will be sold at the door. Pre-sale tickets are available Tuesday, March 21 to Thursday, March 23.   A portion of the proceeds from the 7 p.m. performance on Saturday, March 25 night will be donated to Francis House, in memory of beloved Solvay teacher and friend, Mrs. Andrea Dowling.   With over 100 students from Solvay Middle School involved in this production, be prepared for a musical to remember! ...
Be Prepared! The Lion King Jr. Comes to Solvay Middle School Be Prepared! The Lion King Jr. Comes to Solvay Middle School: Be prepared! On Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, “The Lion King Jr.” will roar to life at Solvay Middle School.   Over 100 students from Solvay Middle School have worked together for months preparing for the show. “The Lion King Jr.” has been the perfect ensemble show for this large cast, which includes students in fourth to eighth grade. The music in “The Lion King Jr.” is a mixture of African chant blended with rich, exquisite melodies that fit together like a beautifully woven fabric. Solvay Middle School’s production will feature familiar songs such as “Hakuna Matata” and “I Just Can’t Wait to be King!,” which contrast with the haunting melodies of “Shadowland” and “The Mourning.” ...
How Two Solvay Teachers Helped St. Baldrick's Grow at Solvay UFSD How Two Solvay Teachers Helped St. Baldrick's Grow at Solvay UFSD: Last year, the first St. Baldrick’s event was held in the Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) at Solvay High School (HS). The event raised over $22,000 for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. The Solvay HS event was one of 1,200 that took place around the country that year, with over 45,000 people braving the shave and helping to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s. Since 2005, the St. Baldrick's Foundation has granted more than $200 million to support the development of childhood cancer treatments that are as unique as each child. St. Baldrick’s was brought to the Solvay UFSD thanks to the hard work of two teachers, Patricia Campbell-Kochanek and Katie St. Denis. St. Denis became involved in St. Baldrick’s as a way to honor her late father’s memory. ...
Reminder: Cinderella Tickets On Sale Now! Reminder: Cinderella Tickets On Sale Now!: Tickets are still on sale for the Solvay High School Drama Club spring musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” The shows will take place in the Solvay High School Auditorium on Friday, March 10 at 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday, March 11 at 2:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. The matinee performance on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. will be signed in American Sign Language. Solvay High School will be one of the first in the area to debut the Broadway musical adaptation to the community. Presale tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students 12 and under. St. Baldrick's Event March 17 St. Baldrick's Event March 17: Brave a Shave for Kids with Cancer #RockTheBald For the second year, Solvay High School (HS) will host the annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraising event. On Friday, March 17, the Solvay community is invited to join Solvay HS and the Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) in helping to conquer childhood cancers. The St. Baldrick’s event will take place at Solvay HS on March 17 from 12:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with shavees taking the stage to have their heads shaved in the Solvay HS auditorium. Solvay HS Presents Rodgers and Hammersteins Solvay HS Presents Rodgers and Hammersteins "Cinderella": “Impossible things are happening everyday!”   The Solvay High School Drama Club is pleased to announce their spring musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.” On Friday, March 10, Solvay High School will be one of the first in the area to debut the Broadway musical adaptation to the community.   Rodgers and Hammerstein’s version of “Cinderella” offers a new twist on the classic tale. The musical, which has been remade twice in 1957 and 1965, debuted on Broadway in 2013. Reconfiguration for Fourth Grade and Pre-K Approved Reconfiguration for Fourth Grade and Pre-K Approved: Dear Community Members, On Monday, February 13, the Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) Board of Education approved the proposed reconfiguration plan at Monday night's regularly scheduled meeting. The plan will move fourth grade to the Solvay Elementary School and the Pre-K program to the district office wing of Solvay Middle School this coming fall.  This decision is one that was not taken lightly. We at the Solvay UFSD have spent the last few months examining the situation carefully to determine what we believe to be the best course of action for our students. We are grateful to those of you who participated in the process and appreciate the input and feedback we have received from the community. Solvay Alumnus Honored at RIT Solvay Alumnus Honored at RIT: It is the alumni of the Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) who help to make Solvay such a special place. A recent Solvay UFSD graduate is continuing to honor that tradition. Eric Goodrich, Valedictorian of the Solvay High School Class of 2014, was recently named a Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Outstanding Undergraduate Scholar. The honor of becoming an RIT Scholar is one of the highest RIT has to offer. Goodrich was invited to become an RIT Scholar based on his completion of at least 83 credit hours and a grade point average of at least 3.85. The chance of being an RIT Scholar is limited to students who have achieved academic standing in the top one percent of their respective colleges at RIT. Goodrich will be recognized at an award ceremony on Thursday, April 6, 2017. ...

Five SMS Students Participate in Perennial Math Tournament!: Congratulations to five Solvay Middle School (MS) students for their participation in the Perennial Math Tournament!   On Saturday, January 21, five students from Ms. Ackerman’s class participated in a Perennial Math Tournament at Jordan Elbridge MS. Students participating were Chris Cappentta, Reis Cleland, Drake Rombach, Emma Rutkowki, and Namine Sierra. In addition to solving many challenging math problems, the students also came back to school with math games they plan to share with their classmates.   Solvay MS student Drake Rombach placed second out of all fourth grade students! Congratulations, Drake!     
Get Ready to Jump, Jump Around! Get Ready to Jump, Jump Around!: The Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) will soon get to jump in on some fun with a very special guest. On Thursday, January 26, René Bibaud, a five-time world champion rope jumper, ESPN commentator, and artist with Cirque Du Soleil, will visit Solvay UFSD to share her love of rope jumping. Throughout the day on January 26, Bibaud will visit Solvay Elementary School. That night, she will host an evening performance from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. in Solvay Middle School for all elementary and middle school families. During this time, students are invited to bring their families to watch Bibaud perform and learn some of her favorite rope skills.   Thank you to the Solvay Elementary School and Solvay Middle School PTOs for sponsoring this free event!

Recent results from our test concluded that are still no areas of concern within any of the Solvay UFSD schools or buildings. Solvay's Relay For Life Seeks Volunteers for June 2017 Solvay's Relay For Life Seeks Volunteers for June 2017: For those looking to start off 2017 by participating in some community service, Relay For Life has an excellent opportunity for the Solvay community.   In June 2017, Relay For Life will take place at the Solvay High School track. The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers to be a part of the Relay For Life celebration at Solvay. The Solvay Union Free School District (SUFSD) has had a successful start to the 2016-2017 school year, but none of our successes as a district would be possible without our faculty, staff, students, teachers, and most importantly you, the Solvay community. Calling All Elves! Students Apply for Jobs at the North Pole Calling All Elves! Students Apply for Jobs at the North Pole: Calling all elves! It’s a busy time of year in the North Pole and the Solvay Union Free School District is looking to help. Last week, students (elves) from Ms. Dennison’s class interviewed for job openings at the North Pole. Interviews were conducted with the help of Solvay Administration, including Solvay Superintendent Mr. Wright, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Mr. Larison, and Special Education Secretary Mrs. Sgarlata. Elves were invited to interview for a variety of positions, including Barn Assistant, Candy Chef, Doctor/Veterinarian, Health Trainer, International Travel Expert , Office Assistant, Toy Maker, and Warehouse Supervisor.
