Solvay Middle School Presents "Seussical Jr." March 23-24

Seussical Jr"Oh, the thinks you can think" – Dr. Seuss

On Friday, March 23, students from Solvay Middle School will celebrate the characters of Dr. Seuss and bring to life the musical “Seussical Jr.” SMS students invite their family and friends to take a trip with them, as they explore the world of Dr. Seuss and travel from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus.

“Seussical Jr.” will debut at SMS on Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 24 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The performance on Friday, March 23 at 7 p.m. will be signed in American Sign Language.

“Seussical Jr.” includes a large and diverse cast, consisting of 75 cast members from fifth to eighth grade, as well as about 40 pre-Kindergarten students participating. In addition to this, there are about 15 kids on stage crew and tech crew combined. This large cast and crew have all worked together for months preparing for the show. “Seussical Jr.” tells the story of Horton the Elephant – narrated by the Cat in the Hat – as he discovers a speck of dust containing the Whos. Horton then makes it his mission to protect the Whos, while also guarding an abandoned egg left in his care by Mayzie La Bird. With the help of his faithful friends, including Gertrude McFuzz and other “Seussian” creatures, “Seussical Jr.” shows audiences how the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community can help us overcome our challenges.

The cast and crew of "Seussical Jr." will continue the yearly tradition of donating a portion of ticket sales from the third show on March 24 at 7 p.m. to a deserving local organization. This year’s donation will go to the Central New York chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. The organization was selected by the eighth grade cast members of “Seussical Jr.”

Tickets are $5 each. Pre-sale tickets are available Tuesday, March 20 to Thursday, March 22. On Tuesday, March 20, tickets will be sold during lunch hours. On Wednesday, March 21, tickets will be sold before school, during lunch hours, and from 4:45 to 5:15 in the lobby. On Thursday, March 22, tickets will be sold before school and from 4:45 to 5:15 in the lobby. General admission tickets will be sold at the door starting a half hour before each show. Both cash and check (made out to Solvay Middle School) will be accepted. For more information, visit the SMS musical webpage.

We hope to see you at “Seussical Jr.,” where SMS will show us all “the thinks you can think, when you think about Seuss!”
