Solvay Student Art on Display at Everson Museum

Surrounded By Color
"Surrounded By Color" by Reaghan Donigan, Silver Key Recipient

Solvay Middle School eight-grader Reaghan Donigan recently had a one of her paintings, titled “Surrounded By Color,” on display as part of an exhibit at the Everson Museum of Art. The exhibit took place from March 11 to April 2.

Reaghan was honored with a silver key for “Surrounded By Color” and a gold key for her print “Charlie,” at the 2017 CNY Scholastic Art Awards held in early January at Onondaga Community College. Reaghan’s painting “Surrounded By Color” was selected by judges to be on display at the Everson. Judges of the 2017 CNY Scholastic Art Awards selected only 32 pieces from the thousands of pieces featured at the awards.

Reaghan describes the process of creating the portrait, as well as receiving the award, as an enjoyable one. And while she was pleasantly “surprised” to receive the award, her talent and careful consideration shine through in her work.

“I decided to make myself grayscale to create contrast against the colorful background,” said Reaghan. “I wanted to emphasize the portrait more.”

In addition to Reaghan, 11 other students from Solvay Middle School and Solvay High School were recognized at the awards ceremony, taking home a total of 14 awards.

Congratulations to Reaghan and the rest of the award recipients!
