Solvay District Office Renovation Complete

(Solvay, NY) - Solvay Union Free School District is pleased to announce the completion of the newly renovated Solvay District Office, located in Solvay Middle School at 299 Bury Drive, Syracuse, NY 13209. The end of the renovation was marked with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the District Office on August 16, 2016 at 6:30 p.m.
 
“We are happy to introduce the new District Office to the Solvay community, just in time for the new school year,” said Superintendent Lawrence Wright. “Our updated facility enables our staff to better support our students, staff, and school community.”
 
Mr. Wright was joined by the district’s Board of Education to participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony.
 
“We’re delighted to start the new school year with the District Office renovation complete,” said Assistant Superintendent for Business Administration Karen Henry. “The project provides a significant cost savings that will be passed down to and greatly benefit everyone within the district.”
 
Moving the District Office to Solvay Middle School will save the district over $100,000 each year in overhead and administrative costs. For the renovation, a wing of classrooms in Solvay Middle School was renovated to make offices for each department within the Solvay District Office. The offices within the new facility include the Superintendent's Office, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Office, Business Office, Special Education Office, Director of Technology Office, and Central Registration. A separate entrance was added, making the District Office accessible from the Solvay Middle School parking lot. To complete the renovation, artwork from Solvay students is featured on the walls throughout the District Office.
 
The renovation comes as a result of many years of planning. When the previous location for the District Office at 103 3rd Street, Solvay, NY was to be put up for sale, plans for a renovation of the District Office started. The Solvay Board of Education and voters approved the renovation in the fall of 2014. The project was funded with state aid and by using the District's capital reserve, with no additional burden to taxpayers.
