Solvay High School Drama Club Presents "Fiddler on the Roof"

Fiddler on the Roof“Tevye: As the good book says, when a poor man eats a chicken, one of them is sick.
Mendel: Where does the book say that?
Tevye: Well, it doesn't say that exactly, but somewhere there is something about a chicken.”

The Solvay High School Drama Club is pleased to announce the spring musical, “Fiddler on the Roof.” The show will take place on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Set in the little village of Anatevka, the story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. Rich in historical and ethnic detail, “Fiddler on the Roof's” universal theme of tradition cuts across barriers of race, class, nationality, and religion, leaving audiences crying tears of laughter, joy, and sadness.

The SHS Drama Club’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” includes over 70 people, who have eagerly spent many months preparing and practicing to bring the musical to life for the Solvay community. This year, students from Solvay Elementary School were also invited to join the cast, making it a community event. The show has been directed by Christian (CJ) Oliver, choreographed by MacKenzie Gildemeyer, and produced by Jerry FitzGerald.

“Fiddler on the Roof” will debut in the SHS Auditorium on Friday, March 9 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. The matinee performance on Saturday, March 11 at 2 p.m. will be signed in American Sign Language.

Tickets are on sale now. Presale tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students and seniors. Tickets will also be sold at the door the day of each performance for $12 for adults and $10 for students 12 and under. Children five and under are free.
