Meet the musicians of the Solvay Summer Band Camp

Congratulations to the Solvay Summer Band Camp!

Students entering grades 5 to 12 were hard at work this summer participating in the Solvay Summer Band Camp program. The group recently wrapped up a week of performing together in a large ensemble concert band setting. The Solvay Summer Band Camp rehearsed a variety of literature throughout the week. At the end of the week, the group performed their cumulative concert for the Solvay community. The concert took place on Friday, August 11 in the Solvay High School Auditorium.

The mission of the Solvay Summer Band Camp is to provide a high quality musical experience to all students enrolled in the Solvay Band Program. The program, which is free to Solvay Band Program members, serves as a link between the end of one school year and the beginning of the next. In addition to this, the program also helps to strengthen their skills and gain confidence in an ensemble concert band setting.

At the concert on August 11, students filled the auditorium with their music and delighted the crowd. Songs performed included "Fire Dance" by David Shaffer, "Willow, Willow" by Percy Aldridge Grainger (arr. Douglas Wagner), Highlights from “Moana” by Lin Manuel Miranda (arr. Johnnie Vinson), and "Afterburn" by Randall Standridge. Click here to view a listing of the program participants.
