Solvay Elementary School Hosts PBIS Ice Cream Social

The students of Solvay Elementary School earned the right to enjoy one of the last Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports (PBIS) activities of the school year. On Wednesday, June 7, students gathered in the SES cafeteria to enjoy an ice cream social. The sweetest part of the event was not only the ice cream and the picture-perfect weather, but also the company. Families were invited to join along in the ice cream social, recognizing the student’s success and being great PBIS team members.

About PBIS
PBIS is a school-wide system at SES that supports, teaches, and promotes positive behavior to create and maintain a safe learning environment. Students at SES are team members by following the three school-wide expectations, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe.

Each time students successfully meet these expectations, they are recognized with punch cards. Each punch on the punch card helps the students be eligible to participate in special activities throughout the school year.

In addition to the ice cream social, one of the latest PBIS incentives is the Golden Table program. The Golden Table program was introduced this past school year in the SES cafeteria. Upon following the “golden rules,” students are awarded gold coins to put in their classroom. The golden rules are using a level one voice, using manners, and asking to get up from the table by raising their hand.

For every five gold coins earned, a large coin is placed on the cafeteria classroom chart. Once a class has fifteen large coins, they are able to make a reservation at the golden table on the stage of the cafeteria. Students are not only able to eat with a special adult at the golden table, but they are also able to enjoy the golden tableware and accessories. After each class sits at the golden table, their picture is put up on the bulletin board in the SES lobby.
