Solvay Softball Advances to State Semifimals

The Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) Varsity Softball team has advanced to the state semifinals for this year’s New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Championships. The Bearcats defeated Susquehanna Valley in the Class B state regional round with a 1-0 victory at Carrier Park on Saturday, June 3.

Pitcher Lauren Nichols helped lead the team, striking out 11 of the first 12 hitters. The Bearcats scored the only run of the game in the first inning, thanks to an RBI single from Caitlin McCann driving in Maya Martineau. To read more about the game, visit the article here.

The Bearcats will face Section II champion Cohoes at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 10. The winner of the game will then advance to the championship game that night at 5:30 p.m.
