The Solvay Union Free School District Gives Back

The entire Solvay Union Free School District (UFSD) recently worked together to give back to the Solvay community in a very special way. Students, teachers, and staff from the district spent two days volunteering at the Vineyard Church for the Feed My Starving Children event.

The Feed My Starving Children event works to help those children who are in need, by providing them with nutritionally complete meals specifically formulated for malnourished children around the world. While donations are given from people through the community, volunteers are crucial to the cause, as they help to hand-pack each of the meals. The meals are then donated to food partners around the world, helping to feed children in need.

Answering the call to help, eighth-graders from Solvay Middle School spent the day working the event, quickly filling up boxes. In total, the eighth grade team filled an outstanding 147 boxes, made 31,017 meals, and fed 86 kids a day for an entire year!

Inspired by the success of the Solvay UFSD eighth grade team, other members of the Solvay UFSD community stepped up to the plate to help, including members of various Solvay UFSD athletic teams. Their work, combined with the work of the eighth-graders, raised the total packed boxes to 209 boxes of food – feeding over 350 children a year. For just two days of work, the Solvay UFSD community was able to have a positive impact on children in need from around the world.

Great work, Solvay! Thank you for taking the time to volunteer!
