Solvay Selected as a Recipient of the AFT Innovation Fund COVID-19 Grant

The Solvay UFSD was one of 13 school districts to be named as a first round winner of the AFT’s Innovative Fund COVID-19 Grant. The goal of the grant as articulated by AFT president Randi Weingarten, “is that through the AFT Innovation Fund, we can step up and support the knowledge, care and ingenuity of educators, their unions and their students in this time of unprecedented national turmoil.”

Solvay UFSD will use the $26,000 in grant funds to support distance learning by providing students with vital physical materials such as calculators, mobile hotspots, clothing, food, and general school supplies. Additionally, some of the funds will be used to support teacher and staff wellbeing as they continue their dedication to the students during this unprecedented time.

The district is grateful to Mike Emmi and Chris Rufo for leading the way in the development of the successful grant application.
